Patriotism

Updated: Jun 27, 2020

What is Patriotism? Some would describe that as what those 300 Spartans did so many years ago, some would suggest that what William Wallace and the Scots did was patriotic, others would claim that what our Founding Fathers endured was patriotic and still others would point to our fine military personnel willing to fight and die for our country. And all would be correct. But that is just one interpretation of patriotism.

Webster defines patriotism as love and loyalty or zealous support of one’s country.

Patriotism takes many forms and is expressed in many different ways; taking up arms, fighting and dying is one form of it. Political activism is another, writing songs or poetry or stories is another, absorbing and relating the history is yet another. Obeying its laws fits the definition, if those laws are just.

Does paying taxes and voting qualify as patriotism? Both may be seen as ‘support and loyalty’ but they seem to fail on the ‘love or zeal’ portion of the definition, although there are some who really are passionate about paying taxes.

It seems to me that patriotism is an active thing; a commitment or an actual action rather than quietly, passively paying taxes. Voting is by that interpretation patriotic as it requires action on a person, a commitment to go do one’s duty to country.

Getting involved by supporting, and/or volunteering to help…..the Convention of States movement is an excellent form of patriotism. It’s a form of patriotism that everyone can express, regardless of gender, age, ethnic background, religion or even political affiliation.

It shows a love for God, family and country that most will never experience unless they actively seek out military service, for the right reasons.

A Convention of States is a way for the People, via the states, to bypass the federal government and propose amendments to the Constitution, in the same manner the Congress does, in an attempt to fix our broken government and restrain the elected and unelected officials of our government so they can’t make it that way again while still being able to do their jobs.

Fixing a broken government instead of discarding it, is that not love and loyalty? Does that not exactly fit the definition of patriotism?

Go to conventionofstates.com to find out more about this Constitutional solution to the problem that is Washington, D.C. and then decide if you want to UNITE with the over 4 million patriots already fighting for our country, our freedom, our Constitution and our children's future.

Stop letting people tell you what to think. Stop letting them divide us. Read Article V of the U.S. Constitution. Decide for yourself!
