Why did IBM, THE computer company of the time?
Simply put, they were too big and therefore moved too slowly. They had become extremely top-heavy and bureaucratic. There had to be memos and exploratory committees and panels to proceed with anything.
I don’t know, but management probably had to issue a memo for an employee to use the restroom. Our government is like that.
They are extremely large and bureaucratic. Their one-size-fits-all ‘solutions’ are slow in coming, very costly and usually cause more problems than they solve.
By contrast, state and local governments are smaller, offer more location-specific solutions that have a much better chance at actually helping and respond faster. They also respond better, generally, to the people they serve.
But the individual is still best at providing solutions unique to their own situation. Self-government is always best. You know what you need. I don’t know unless you tell me.
A state politician doesn’t know unless you tell him and he or she won’t do anything unless enough of their constituents echo the same problem.
A federal politician doesn’t listen to their constituents, they do what they think should be done. Many times, what they ‘think’ should be done is influenced by lobbyists, big corporate or political interests trying to satisfy their own selfish needs.
A state politician represents 30,000 or so people. A federal representative – 758,500 people, on average.
This seems to be an indictment of federal government and an endorsement of more local government.
