I was recent testifying at a state committee hearing. There was a lot of fear in that room from the opposition.
I am a volunteer for the Convention of States so I was trying to convince our state to be one of the ones who ask for the convention to happen. But since convention is a forgotten term by today's hyper-intelligent human beings, fear and ego had to fill the gap when the word 'convention' was encountered.
Conventions were a common occurrence before the Constitution was written and the Framers wrongly assumed that such a useful tool would always remain known. They were wrong and since the people of today deem themselves smarter than previous generations they naturally filled in their own definition, infused with fear and inaccuracies, when they encountered such a unfamiliar term as convention.
A convention is simply a meeting of the minds to consider potential problems and potential solutions, all constrained by the invitation subject line.
